Mission & Strategic Plan

APLA Health’s mission is to achieve health care equity and promote well-being for the LGBT and other underserved communities and people living with and affected by HIV.


Educate, test, treat, support, prevent, and cure

  • Improve access to care
  • Provide exceptional, cost-effective, and culturally competent care
  • Grow the number of people we serve
  • Partner with other organizations to ensure the delivery of comprehensive services to promote health and wellness in the populations we serve


Contribute to the eradication of HIV and the human suffering it causes

  • Develop and implement strategies, interventions, and programs to eliminate HIV transmission and promote the emotional, physical, and sexual health of people living with and at risk for HIV
  • Support and treat those living with HIV disease
  • Bolster efforts to find solutions that lead to the cure for HIV


Advocate for evidence-based health policy

  • Be a voice for the health needs of LGBT individuals, other underserved communities, and people living with and affected by HIV
  • Work at the community, state, and national levels to improve health policy outcomes
  • Contribute to global advocacy on behalf of the populations we serve

Engage in dynamic strategic planning, evaluate our progress, and make changes when needed

  • Define, monitor, and evaluate our annual and long-term programmatic and financial goals
  • Enhance our foundation for long-term financial security


Ensure a corporate identity that supports our mission

  • Cultivate and sustain a volunteer board of directors with a health services consumer perspective
  • Promote and foster the expertise, pride, and fulfillment of our workforce and volunteers
