We are happy to announce the sixth installment of Art Project Los Angeles taking place on September 17, 2016, at the beautiful Bonhams auction house on Sunset Boulevard. The event will include silent and live auctions to benefit APLA as well as a hosted reception offering guests complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Art Project Los Angeles has featured works by artists such as Ed Ruscha, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Longo, and Pablo Picasso, as well as work from young, talented local artists.
Todd Squires
Featured Artist
Todd Squires is a Los Angeles-based artist, whose work is inspired by everyday objects and moments, highlighting the qualities we may miss at first glance but that can also make those moments unforgettable. “I describe it as zooming in on the mundane, the commonplace, and transforming it into the unexpected and, at times, the extraordinary,” he says.
While Todd has worked in several media, it is his lifelong obsession with photography that initially led him to study film and cinematography. His background in these arenas is often apparent in his current work. “Palm Drops,” the juried competition winner for this year’s Art Project Los Angeles and part of the live auction, presents the viewer with a serene yet fractured image. It may bring to mind living in California amid the ravages of a persistent drought, or it may make the viewer think of living in a world where reflections of an object carry more meaning than the object itself. It is open ended, mysterious, and beautiful—much like Los Angeles itself.
Todd’s artwork has been presented in several solo and group exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York. He also collaborated on an artist book with Raymond Pettibon titled Faster, Jim, which he presented at the Getty Research Institute exhibition The Artist Turns to the Book. The book is also part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
