APLA Health Reaffirms Commitment to Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Individuals

In response to a New York Times report that the Trump Administration is considering narrowly redefining “sex” to eliminate non-discrimination protections for transgender individuals across federal agencies, APLA Health Chief Executive Officer Craig E. Thompson issued the following statement:

“This is just the latest attempt by President Trump and his administration to erase the very existence of transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. By establishing a narrow definition of sex as either ‘male or female based on immutable biological traits’ at birth, transgender and gender nonconforming communities will be open to discrimination across a wide range of federal programs—including access to health care. The Administration’s plans directly contradict decades of science and evidence on gender identity and will make it even more difficult for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals to access the services they need to be healthy and thrive. APLA Health will continue to fight this latest attack to ensure the safety and well-being of all LGBTQ individuals.” #WontBeErased
