Substance Use

Compassionate, judgment-free care

At APLA Health, we offer compassionate, judgment-free care for individuals navigating substance use.

Our services include:

Individual and group counseling
Access to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Harm reduction tools, including naloxone (Narcan) and fentanyl test strips
Referrals to higher levels of care, such as inpatient programs or detox when needed
We believe that any positive step forward matters. Whether your goal is to reduce your use, practice safer use, begin abstinence, or return to recovery after a lapse, we're here to support you—without judgment or pressure.

Our approach is:

Client-centered – Your goals lead the way
Trauma-informed – We honor your experiences and resilience
Strengths-based – We focus on what’s working for you and help build on it
Substance use counseling is provided by licensed therapists and associate clinicians under the guidance of our Substance Use Services Director. Many clients receive substance use support alongside mental health and primary care, all in one place—because we know that integrated care leads to better outcomes.
We understand that substance use affects the whole person—biologically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. That’s why we use evidence-based practices like:
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Our goal is to empower you with tools, support, and understanding as you define what recovery looks like for you.

You're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. APLA Health is here to walk alongside you on your journey, every step of the way.

If you’re interested in starting substance use services, talk to your APLA Health primary care provider. They can help you get connected.

Fentanyl Test Strips

We can provide you with free testing strips that you can use to determine if fentanyl is present in any substances you might be using.

Ask any APLA Health employee for confidential assistance.

Fentanyl is a deadly synthetic opioid that has been found in substances such as heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, molly, and other recreational drugs.

The Drug Enforcement Administration found fentanyl-laced substances more than 8,600 times in one six-month period alone. The problem is truly becoming epidemic: 28,400 people died of synthetic opioid overdoses in 2017.
